Lacey Washington – A Blend of Nature and Culture

Lacey offers an ideal lifestyle for families with excellent schools, low crime rates, and affordable housing. It is also an environmentally responsible community that has been recognized as a Tree City USA for more than 20 years. Almost 20 percent of the City is dedicated to parks, open space and natural areas.

The City of Lacey’s Parks, Culture and Recreation department provides healthy and inspirational recreational opportunities to enhance quality of life and the environment through community events, programs, facilities and land management. Its 1,200 acres of parkland and open space, miles of walking trails, a premier regional athletic complex, three indoor public pools and several community buildings make Lacey one of the State’s finest municipal park systems.

Outdoor enthusiasts love the city’s pristine forests, serene lakes, and scenic trails. The wetlands at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge attract bird-watchers and nature lovers, while the water sports available at Long Lake Park appeal to fishing and boating enthusiasts.

Shopping and dining options in the Hawks Prairie area are diverse, with a wide range of stores, restaurants, and boutiques to choose from. For a more laid-back experience, Wonderwood Park is a community gem tucked away between College Street and Ruddell Road, featuring two playgrounds, a picnic shelter, youth baseball and soccer fields, and basketball, pickleball, tennis, and volleyball courts.

Residents can enjoy a variety of local cultural activities at the Lacey Museum, which features exhibits and artifacts from native and early settler cultures. In addition, the community’s many celebrations of dance and song allow residents to embrace their individual and collective cultural identities.
