3 Types of Furnaces

A furnace is an appliance that uses thermal energy to heat your home. It can be powered by either gas or electricity. Various types of furnaces are available, but each can serve a different purpose.

In a typical furnace, a blower circulates air from the top of the heating unit to the bottom. This provides a more even distribution of warm air. The furnace also generates heat through combustion. When the desired temperature is reached, the furnace shuts off.

Single stage furnaces are the most common type of furnace. They run at a low speed most of the time. Their main advantage is that they are more economical.

Two-stage furnaces are much more expensive, but they are also more efficient. They run slower and heat your home more evenly. Another advantage of this furnace is that it is fairly quiet.

Modulating furnaces are another type of furnace that operate by controlling the rate of flame output. However, they do not perform as well as other types of furnaces.

Although single stage furnaces are relatively efficient, they can be noisy. Fortunately, new furnaces have a digital integrated control board. This board controls the blower, igniter, and gas valve. Combined with smart learning thermostats, it can provide more accurate temperature control.

Electric resistance heating is also popular in low-cost areas. An electric furnace is the most effective and environmentally friendly form of heating. Typically, it has a heater coil, blower motor, and a cabinet.
